Many people assume that a marijuana plant is a marijuana plant, they’re all alike. But, nothing could be farther from the truth. In reality there’s really no way of knowing how many different strains of marijuana there is. It is known that there are at least a thousand different strains and more being hybrid on a regular basis.

The numerous strains can be placed in one of either two basic categories, Sativa and Indica. Many of the strains of marijuana available are actually a combination of the two in growers attempts to combine the best of both plants into one.

Sativa plants grow much taller than Indicas and are usually bigger in width as well. And, since the plant is bigger so are the buds, but they are generally not as dense as the buds from Indica varieties. They usually take at least nine or ten weeks to flower and the buds are also not as aromatic as the Indica plants buds.

The Indica variety are bushier plants that have smaller buds. But, the buds tend to be more dense and have a more prominent smell. They will flower much quicker than Sativas and normally go through a six to nine week flowering period.

Since the plants are so different so are the effects that they have when smoked. If you’re going for a giggly, energetic feeling choose the Sativas, they offer a more cerebral high. Indicas are widely known to enhance senses such as taste, smell and sound, but they give you more of a stoned, relaxed feeling.

White Widow is probably the most popular strain of marijuana there is. It’s also one of the strongest strains there is in the entire world with THC levels reaching about 20%. Another one of the most potent plants is Northern Lights. It’s very popular for it’s yield ratio of low leaf and high flower.

Whatever your taste or style, there’s a marijuana strain that will meet your every expectation! And, if you want a little more fun in the taste, you can even try the bubblegum flavored marijuana. It has a sweet aroma and actually tastes almost like bubblegum!

Cancer is one of the number one causes of death and even with the chemo and radiation treatments it’s often hard to win a battle with cancer. But, is there a better treatment that is being used? If there something to reduce the pain and increase survival ratings for victims?

The answer could just be marijuana! The first documentation of marijuana’s anti-cancer effects actually came from experimentation done almost 35 years ago! A study conducted at the Medical College of Virginia resulted in findings that marijuana slowed the growth of many types of cancer and prolonged lives by up to 36%.

You would think that the study results encouraged more research and would have led to the plant being used in cancer treatments. The government denied the authorization for any more testing to be done for almost twenty years. When in the mid 90’s a “secret” clinical trial ended with the same results.

Since then the U.S. government hasn’t authorized any more clinical trials or experiments to work toward using marijuana for medical purposes. However, in other countries scientists are still reporting that marijuana can stop the spread of numerous types of cancer.

The THC found in marijuana has an amazing ability to seek and destroy cancer cells while virtually ignoring the healthy cells. And, one of the really great benefits is that marijuana is far less toxin and damaging to the body than commonly used treatments such as chemo and radiation!

In recent years some states have made it legal for doctors to prescribe marijuana to cancer patients to help with the pain and the nausea associated with the treatments. But, some states still haven’t allowed this amazing drug to be used as a treatment.

THC has been found to help reduce breast cancer, lung cancer, brain cancer and leukemia among many other cancers. The THC found in marijuana works to block the protein that blood vessels need to grow. Cancer tumors need a well stocked blood supply to grow, so THC literally takes away the “food” that tumors need thus stunting their growth!

Around the world the largest usage of marijuana is of course for personal recreational use. But, aside from the intoxicating effect that millions of people love worldwide, hemp has more commercial uses than any one plant or substance known to man!

Everyone probably knows that hemp can be used to make rope and items made from fabric, but this amazing plant can be used for so much more! In fact, just one acre of marijuana plants can produce four times as much paper products as one acre of trees!

The fiber produced from hemp is around ten times stronger than the fibers in cotton. So, basically hemp fabrics have the potential to last ten times longer! And, cotton can only be grown in warm regions, hemp will grow almost anywhere!

Another benefit to using hemp in the textile industry is the amount of fiber each plant produces. For instance, if you grew hemp on a 25X25 mile piece of land, the plants would yield enough fiber in one short year to manufacture around a million pair of jeans.

The use of hemp in building materials would drastically reduce the amount it costs to build homes, schools, hospitals and other facilities.

Hemp building materials would have a resemblance to wood, but would be much stronger than ordinary wood making structures last much longer.

One of the main concerns around the world right now is fuel. Hemp could literally replace the need for any petroleum based products! It produces more biomass than any other plant known and this biomass can be converted to a fuel that is both clean and renewable! It could literally replace 100% of the energy needs in America!

The oil from the plant can be used to manufacture a plastic substitute, lubricating oils, varnish, paint and even ink. It can also be used to make many nutritious foods such as cheese, butter and breads. There’s also cosmetics, soaps and other personal items that can be made from the plant.

For thousands of years the plant has been used for medicinal purposes and even today studies have shownthat it is highly effective for many medical uses. It’s one of the best options for pain relief even in chronic patients, prevents nausea associated with chemotherapy, helps with glaucoma and various types of cancer as well.

This one plant can be used in the manufacture of over 30,000 different products! And, any product made from hemp can be made without adding any gases or emissions to the environment! On top of that, growing hemp doesn’t do any damage at all to the soil. Hemp is definitely one amazing plant!

For the first time in about a quarter of a century, legalization of marijuana has actually been brought up before Congress! Some legislators are urging that penalties for marijuana use and possession be abolished for anyone that is holding under 100 grams!

If the legislation goes through, you would be able to have around a fourth of a pound of marijuana in your possession without being arrested or fined! Lawmakers stressed that the U.S. that responsible adult usage of marijuana should not be illegal!

The arrest statistics for marijuana use are staggering! Since 1965, over 20 million arrests have been made relating to marijuana and 11 million of those have been since 1990! In the United States some one is arrested for marijuana on an average of every 38 seconds!

Under current laws, marijuana users face much more than just prison time and large fines. A conviction can lead to loss of jobs and any type of government financial aid such as college aid, food-stamps, welfare, medical benefits and low income housing aid. And, in many cases even homes and vehicles are seized by the government.

One legislator stated that the marijuana laws are one of the biggest criminal injustices that exists in America. And, another called it immoral and inhumane in regard to it’s use in helping people who suffer from medical afflictions and chronic pain.

While this is a huge step and a glimmer of hope for the legalization of marijuana it would not affect all the laws. The laws pertaining to growing the plant, importation, exportation and selling marijuana will still remain in effect. And, state laws will still pretty much be left up to each individual state to enact as they see fit.

Finally, some people in authority are starting to realize that the amount of time and money wasted by police enforcement on marijuana could be best spent on the many violent, deadly drugs floating around our streets.

It might seem like a small beginning, but it can literally lead to you being able to make your own choices or using marijuana!

Marijuana is illegal in the U.S. today, the fines and penalties vary from state to state. But, the plant is widely used and completely legal in various countries. There’s probably no other plant on earth that is as versatile as marijuana and there has never been more controversy over any other plant on earth!

A documented history of marijuana use can be traced back to 3727 BC. It has been used for a medicinal plant for treatment of malaria, rheumatism and was given to women during child birth. And, Taiwan began using the plant for fiber around 10,000 years ago. It’s been used for clothing, ropes and other various items.

While it is illegal in the U.S. now, it was once actually illegal not to grow this hardy, versatile plant! In fact, the first law ever enacted dealing with marijuana was at the Jamestown Colony in 1619 and literally ordered that every farmer had to grow hemp! And, the preceding years also saw several other laws that made it illegal if farmers didn’t grow the plant!

You might face prison time for growing the plant now, but when the government needed the plant during war time, they encouraged people to grow it! Of course, with the introduction of other materials to use for essential war items, the government outlawed this important cash crop.

The United States Census done in 1850 documents proof of 8,327 marijuana plantations that were a minimum of 2,000 acres in size! During a span from 1763 until 1767, you could actually even pay the taxes you owed the government with marijuana!

So, how did a plant that literally has an unlimited number of uses come to be taboo? The first state law that was ever passed making the plant illegal was in Utah in 1910 and of course, religion was involved. Mormon’s who visited Mexico brought the plant back to Salt Lake City and the displeased church made it illegal!

Other states quickly began to follow in making marijuana illegal. Most of the war waged on marijuana has actually been based on racism and fear tactics. Through rumors and misconceptions, the plant was accused of causing many violent outbreaks and even ruthless massacres.

The no holds barred war began in 1930 with the establishment of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics. The director paired with a revenge seeking newspaper owner, labeled marijuana as the cause of murders, rapes, insanity and named the drug responsible for causing more violence in the history of mankind than any other drug!

While some states have legalized marijuana for it’s medicinal use, the outright legalization of the plant is probably a long ways off. And, it just might be a cause of controversy from now on! But, with supporters on both sides of the fence who knows, maybe one day soon you’ll actually be free to grow this versatile plant once again!
